RIGHTS OF WAY SECURED TO COMPLETE COTATI ROAD

Through the efforts of the local Chamber of Commerce the securing of the right-of-way has been removed and the problem of the completion of the road and is now up to the board of supervisors.  Efforts of the Sebastopol Chamber of Commerce are composed of William Hotle, T.J. Bridgeford, Henry Elphick, J.P. Kelly, J.P. McDonell, W.L. Benepe, M. Kauffman and Secretary Robert Leopold, Secretary Kerrigan of the Petaluma Chamber, George McNear of Petaluma and Fred Keppel, representing the Cotati Chamber.  This committee met with the owner of the tract of land, Mr. Matsen, which the proposed road is to pass, and after considerable discussion arrangements were made for acquiring the land desired for the road.

NOVEMBER 1946

DIAL TELEPHONES INSTALLED IN SEVERAL LOCALITIES

Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Company announced that dial telephones have been introduced into Valley Ford and Bodega.  Dials will be installed next in Occidental, with the actual date of the cut-over to be announced.  New numbers will be issued to subscribers as the districts are cut-over to dials.  Until the dial service is placed in operation, subscribers have been requested to continue using their manual telephones and their present numbers.  A special telephone directory containing the new numbers will be mailed to subscribers prior to the cut-over date in each locality.

NOVEMBER 1971

BUS SERVICE IN OPERATION

The City’s first transit system will go into operation tomorrow.  Jim Buras, owner of the Sebastopol transit system, told the Times he will drive up every street in the city approximately every one hour and 15 minutes.  Until a more exact schedule is worked out, the 12-passenger jitney will not have designated bus stops.  Buras indicated that he will stop for anyone standing along the curb.  The service will be offered from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday unless evening activities create a demand for it to remain in service later.  The service will also be open for a half-day on Sundays to service churches. 

One week later a detailed schedule is posted and now reserves the hours of 7-9 a.m. and 5-6 p.m. for those wishing individual pickup and delivery to and from work.
