Describes his academic and athletic achievements at Analy High School (Sebastopol). After Pearl Harbor, the Masuokas are interned in Colorado. After volunteering for the U.S. Army, he then elects to fight overseas in Italy and France, with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, the most decorated regiment for its size in U.S. military history composed almost entirely of second-generation American soldiers.
